January Jaunts

The Saturday Group kicked off the New Year constructing some fencing at our base at South Pilton Green Farm. Wellies were the order of the day in the constantly waterlogged fields, but they got stuck in and completed a section of fence, in what proved to be, another rain free first Saturday of the month. The forecast is looking good for tomorrows outing – that is if I can get to work as I only just made it through the floods this morning!

Our weekday volunteers have been continuing with the fence and one more day should see it completed. We were suppose to go to NT Brecon for a week to help out with some tree planting but unfortunately snow stopped play. A couple of volunteers managed to get through the snow to Gower and set up residence in our newly lit workshop making dormice boxes – take a look at the blog yesterday from our new blogger Kim (our office whizz on FB and Twitter).

A group of Working Holiday leaders came and stayed at the Lodge for a weekend of conservation work and discussion. It proved a very productive weekend in all aspects and culminated in a fine walk around Whiteford with our very own local guide Roni. Its great getting together with the leaders to see how we can all make Working Holidays an expereince never to be forgotten (for all the right reasons!).

On Monday this week I got rather wet changing the tide times out on the Worms Head, but the rest of the week hasn’t been too bad and enabled us to get out and about. We have filled our log store at Cwm Ivy just in case winter decides to have another go and  undertook some drainage work at Overton and Mewslade to try and prevent further erosion of footpaths.

Im going to get the tools ready now for tomorrows Saturday group – if you fancy getting out and about why not join us sometime – its well worth it!!
