June Snippets

As a pretext to Emma’s full Gower blog I thought I would write a little something as I have been doing a bit of work there myself.

We started the month with a working holiday, so I met them all on the Sunday night and made sure they settled into the Lodge – I was lucky to stay for tea…though thinking about it I might have invited myself whilst talking to the leader earlier in the week 🙂

On the Monday we spent the day at Rhossili where we cleared the ditch along the beach path and we also started to repair a dry stone wall outside the rectory. Unfortunately rain stopped play but we had a good day.

The following weekend saw the Saturday group spend a lovely day at Penmaen Burrows. We cleared the church, burial chamber and hillfort. It was amazing how many hands made light work of the bracken in the hillfort, and the burial chamber is looking splendid.

In the middle of the month I had a group out from the Llanelli branch of the Halifax. It was a real family occasion and we had 11 people help us clear bracken from Cwm Ivy Tor. We set our targets high but again they ripped through it. It made a great start for this years clearance.

And to round the month off we had another working holiday, this time just for the weekend, helping out with our Family Woodland fun day and a 24 hour Bioblitz. I will let the others tell you more about that. It was a fantastic weekend all round though. Thanks to everyone who helped out and especially to Kathryn who organised both events. Well done 🙂
