Rhossili Car Park – We want your ideas!

We want your ideas!

We have recently purchased the car park at Rhossili and we’d like to make some improvements.

Please take a look at our draft proposals below and let us know of your comments and suggestions by emailing them to by Thursday 23rd July 2015.

The car park provides a key starting point for visits to Gower and is used year round by a wide cross section of people.

We want to provide an attractive, practical car park which provides easy access in all weathers, and which blends into the surrounding coastal scenery.

Our proposals include:

  • Improving the surfacing and drainage so there is sufficient parking suitable for use in all weathers; this includes some areas of stone and tarmac, as well as reinforcing the grass to prevent damage, and leaving some fields available for overflow parking
  • Creating safe routes through the car park for pedestrians, and replacing steps with ramps to make access easier for those with reduced mobility and for buggies;
  • Considering access improvements to the coast through the Vile, and a more direct connection between the car park and the path to Rhossili Beach;
  • Providing places to sit and relax and enjoy the wonderful views;
  • Blending the car park in with the local landscape by restoring hedgebanks and repairing stone walls, using local limestone, and planting wild flowers, gorse and hawthorn;
  • Improving wildlife value by encouraging wild flowers and managing grassland out-of-season by sheep grazing.

Let us know your thoughts by emailing by Thursday 23rd July 2015.

  1. Apart from ramps for people with disabilites, why not leave the car park as it is? Other parts of Gower need improving to ensure visitors do not converge on one place.
