December – more rain

We started the rather damp month at Hunts Bay with our Tuesday volunteers and a group from Natural Resources Wales. We spent the day clearing gorse from the limestone grassland and also litter picked the beach.

We have been slowly repairing little bits of the dry stone wall along the track at Rhossili and both the Wednesday and Thursday volunteers have spent a very wet and windy day undertaking the work.

We spent a couple of days in the woodyard at Cwm Ivy, splitting logs and have made sure all the holiday cottage wood stores have been filled up ready for the Christmas break. I’m not sure if Emma B has spent too long there though as she appears to be blending in with the surroundings…photo 2

The Saturday group spent a windy but amazingly dry day (don’t know how that happens!) at Port Einon Point clearing cotoneaster. There are probably only a couple more days work left there now which is good going considering the area sprayed.

We have undertaken litterpicks at Tor Bay and Three Cliffs Bay, and a group from Cefn Saeson school in Neath came out for two days and cleared both ends of Rhossili Beach. They were well organised and even came prepared with wheelbarrows to help collect the litter before bagging it.

This week has been finishing off lots of smaller jobs and we were able to put a lovely new sign on the bird hide at Cwm Ivy.

The second new bird hide on the other side of the marsh was finished this week by our contractor and we will officially open that in the New Year.

So it just leaves me to say a massive thank you to all our volunteers.

We really couldn’t do it without you.

Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2016
